Consumers have a wider choice than ever now as single speed bicycles get more popular. So why ride single speed bicycles anyway?
Well apart from the simplicity of having no complex drive trains to worry about there may be more pro’s than con’s for a single speed bicycle, it just depends how you look at it.
Modern multi geared bicycles are wonders of engineering, and permit a bicyclist to choose the gear ratio that will create the most effective use of their vigour. If what you are after is acquiring the uttermost conceivable speed/distance for the minimal a multi-speed bike is what you need…but, efficiency is not everything!
If you are riding for plain pleasure, or for physical exercise, you do not of necessity place that high a premium on output results, as quantified in speed, distance or vertical climbing. Alternatively, you might care more about the real experience of riding your bicycle. In that case, you may be a prospect for a singlespeed bike.

You are able to actually sense the difference!
Single speed bicycles are perceptibly more agile and lighter to pedal than a multispeed bicycle in the same gear ratio. Singlespeed bicycles are also substantially tougher and dependable than multispeed bikes. There’s no derailer to catch on the undergrowth or to become overshifted into the spokes. The back wheel itself is a good deal more substantial than one made with off-center spoking to make room for a whole caboodle of cogs on one side.
